Prunus campanulata ‘ Formosan’
Bare Rooted
$45.00
Prunus campanulata (Formosan Flowering Cherry) is a beautiful deciduous ornamental tree native to Taiwan, southern China, and parts of northern Vietnam. It is one of the earliest flowering cherry species, producing masses of vibrant, deep pink to rose-red, bell-shaped blossoms in late winter to early spring before the leaves appear. The nectar-rich flowers attract bees, butterflies, and birds, making it an excellent tree for supporting pollinators.
The tree typically grows 5–12 metres in height with a rounded to spreading canopy. Its glossy green leaves emerge after flowering and turn attractive shades of yellow, orange, or red in autumn, providing year-round ornamental interest. After flowering, small dark red to black cherries develop, which are enjoyed by birds.
Prunus campanulata thrives in full sun and prefers well-drained, fertile soil. It is moderately drought tolerant once established and performs best in temperate to subtropical climates. Due to its spectacular floral display, attractive seasonal foliage, and ease of maintenance, the Formosan Flowering Cherry is widely planted in gardens, parks, streetscapes, and public landscapes as a striking ornamental tree.
